There's a great story in Linda Johnsen's book <i>Meditation is Boring?</i>, when she speaks about her guru, Swami Rama, and her interactions with him and his devotees. When one devotee heard that Swami Rama had to use the toilet, she was so shocked, she fainted. She assumed that he was God and therefore had no use of a body, that all bodily functions would stop. But Johnsen talks candidly about her guru's temperament, his ups and downs, his temper, etc., and what she learned by observing that someone who is enlightened can still get cranky in the morning. It's a great reminder that realization doesn't negate the human being who has had it. You make a very good and important point about de-personalization.

It is these expectations, built into the linguistics of enlightenment culture, that subtly misdirect awareness from the source to the idea about the source.

Ahamkara is more precise, and it avoids this confusion. I’ll look forward to your blog entry on it.

However, something bothers me...... the devi said that puja conducted during the Panchak period is not accepted..... this saturday falls inside the Panchack Period. what are ur views on this? i received your e-mail today concerning ur Lakshmi Puja on saturday. i am from Trinidad and am very interested in Devi worship. i’ve been a member of MahaKali (sada)Temple for one year now and am always eager to learn more of the Devi and her worship. In my temple, the Devis and Devatas do manifest on members (not me as yet).
